UN: Russia’s ambassador to the UN Vasily Nebenzia said on Monday that Moscow was “open to diplomacy” but stressed the need to protect separatist areas from calling Ukraine’s aggression.
“We are open to diplomacy for a diplomatic solution,” he told an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. “However, allowing a new bloodbath in Donbass is something we don’t want to do.”
The emergency session followed Vladimir Putin’s order to deploy Russian troops in isolated areas, a move widely denied during a meeting between the United States and its allies.
